Relationships with Other School/District Professionals
River Bend utilizes their non-teaching professionals very well. Each grade level has a grade level counselor, and there is also a Lead Counselor to assist all grade levels. Counselors are invited and attend grade level meetings with teachers, and they also move with their students each year. This allows them to get to know their students very well and have a chance to work with all the teachers and administrators in the building. Counselors also have duties like teachers, one being to help supervise their grade level lunches, which provides them more opportunities to engage with students and teachers.
River Bend also has a full time social worker. She is very welcoming, friendly, and helpful. She communicates well with teachers and administration. She helps run the Tiger Depot, which is our food pantry on campus for families that need food and hygiene supplies. She can also help families find clothing and furniture that they can afford. River Bend enjoys the partnership with its social worker in order to develop deeper relations with its community.
River Bend also utilizes its Media Coordinator very well. Currently we have an interim media coordinator, and she is amazing! She is proactive with building relationships with teachers and finding ways she can help support their instruction. Within the first week of school, she had the 7th grade social studies classes come into the Media Center and they participated in a lesson about primary resources. It was a great collaboration!
I have not met any of the Related Services providers yet (School Psychologist, Speech Pathologist, Occupational Therapist, Assistive Technology, Physical Therapist, etc). However, I can speculate that relationships with them is positive based on the relationships with other non-teaching professionals.
