First Impression
When walking into River Bend Middle School, I was greeted with many signs of “Welcome” in English and in Spanish. On the front doors of the school, “Welcome” and “Bienvenidos” are etched into the glass, and in the lobby of the school, “Welcome” is painted on the third-floor windows. The building is light, airy, and clean. The two custodians worked hard throughout the summer and continuously through the year to make sure River Bend is always presentable.
The Lead Secretary was very helpful and friendly. She walked me to many areas of the school in order to introduce me to the key people that were in the building in July. She showed me to my office and provided me with a key my first day. She was also just as excited as I was to let me know my new WCPSS Administrative Intern badge had arrived.
The Guidance Tech was also a very hospitable colleague on my first day at River Bend. During the summer months, she also provides support at the reception desk. She helped me find little items for my office, such as a door stop, and told me who in the building would be best to assist me depending on what I needed. She gave me her cell phone number right away and checked up on me throughout the day to make sure everything was going well. She was more than willing to answer any questions I had.
Overall, my first impression of River Bend Middle School is positive. Many signs of welcome throughout, figuratively and literally. Although the principal was not present due to a previously scheduled professional development, many others greeted me with kindness and open hearts. This first day was indicative of the family culture of River Bend Middle School, and I am so excited to join the tiger family.
